In Written Word is an editorial site exploring place, taste, and lived experience through essays and first-person writing.
It began as a simple desire to write more attentively—to places I’ve been, meals shared, and the quiet moments that shape us in ways we don’t always notice right away. The writing here is grounded in observation and lived experience, shaped by curiosity.
Travel appears not as a guide, but as a way of paying attention. Food shows up as memory, ritual, and connection. Personal essays and short fiction live alongside one another, offering different ways of exploring the same questions: where we come from, what we carry, and how we change over time.
In Written Word is written and edited by Isabelle Alerte, a writer of essays and short fiction. Her work explores place, memory, intimacy, and becoming.
Whether you’ve been reading literary work for years or are simply looking for something thoughtful to sit with, you’re welcome here.
